Giving You a Choice, to Change -

Home Detox from Opioids in England and Wales.

AIM has successfully supported people to become drug free effectively, and recover from their addiction , by providing assisted withdrawal and symptomatic relief in their community, here's how AIM will support you;

Home Detox from Opiates or Opioids:

Assessment will ascertain what level of withdrawal you may experience and how you have previously dealt with these feelings and physical reactions- you will have learned coping strategies previously that will be of benefit.

With you, AIM will then design a personal plan of care for you, and agree objectives to meeting your goals, such as reducing drug use, preparing activities to keep you occupied, ensuring you have adequate support in place and commencing brief psychological interventions.

  • It is recommended to participate in therapeutic interventions before, during and especially after a period of detox, this not only improves the positive outcome of a detox - i.e. staying clean from drugs- but it also may help you to rebuild your life and gain skills to continue living without the need of a drug or substance to make you feel 'normal'.

  • If you would like advice on stopping or safely reducing your medication or drug use, please contact  AIM

  • AIM provide daily assessment of your symptoms and gauge these accordingly throughout your entire detoxifiaction. This in turn lets us plan for any symptoms of withdrawal you may expereince or even be concerned about the possibility of experiencing.

You can find the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines here on opiate detox.

It is extremely important to be aware of your tolerance to opiates reducing prior and during detox, any use during and after detox puts you at a much higher risk of a potentially fatal overdose.

  • Some symptoms of addiction and withdrawal that you may experience include:

Insomnia.

Diarrhoea.

Nausea and vomiting.

Stomach cramps.

Leg cramps and restless legs.

General aches and pain / malaise.

Sweating.

Agitation or Increased anxiety.

  • These feelings are often uncomfortable and may be distressing.  Individual treatments such as paracetamol, buscopan and maxalon can help alleviate them individually and will form the 'Symptomatic Relief' part of my detox plan for you that we create at assessment.

  • 'Symptomatic Relief' can effectively be used in conjunction with a medication called Lofexidine, the symptoms of withdrawal appear to be reduced to a much more manageable level, allowing people to continue their daily activities including work and education if they desire.

  • A home detox is possible with medications purchased over the counter at a chemist and does not require Lofexidineif you choose not to. AIM is happy to provide information and advice on how to complete this yourself if you would rather attempt to detox in this way without my support and ongoing interventions

  • AIM will provide you with full information on all medications and treatments so you can make a decision on what you would like to have available during your detox.

  • Appointments prior to the detox period will be structured to focus on your goals and achieve your aims of recovery.  Currently, all sessions will be 1:1.

  • Utilising Solution Focussed Therapy prior, during and following your detox to provide you with psychological support throughout the process.
